Lessons from the Rain - Story of a Foodpreneur!

"Oh myyyy...it's 1:30pm", I said to myself as I rounded off the checklist I was doing.
I packed the items I needed to deliver to a client in Ikeja. At this time, I was still in Ikorodu.
I had thought, in another 1hr max, with the help of the not too rapid bus (BRT) and okada (motorcycle)and this was me being 'moderately' cost effective as other means would have being a little cheaper but might waste time.

Time was something I didn't want to mess with especially at the point of delivery.
I dashed out of my office and took a bike to the 1st bus stop to board the BRT.
On getting there, a bus had just left. Infact, was just moving....chai! I couldn't afford to wait for another 1 hr or there about for the empty bus to get filled up.

Until recently, I could have boarded irrespective because I knew the bus would get filled in no time. But since the increase in price, OMG! Passengers would refuse to board and the bus drivers would refuse to move until the bus was filled!
So... I thought of the riskiest thing ever (for me)!
"Oga, Maryland. Oya"
Vroom mm....on top of Okada!
I love speed and the breeze no doubt and I loveeeee (d) the idea of riding a power bike until I had a serious accident 3 years ago on okada that almost got me "legless"( pains gone though but the scar reminds ne every morning of my love for SPEED  and yas! I would still buy and ride a power bike sha)
Lesson 1: A fall once doesn't give you the permission to stay on the floor. Learn the lessons and move on!

I was paying 5 times the cost but I convincingly said to myself, "I'm paying for time Titi...time!!!"
Lesson 2: The price for result and success isn't cheap most times and it doesn't always have to be cash. Can be as intangible yet valuable as TIME!

My client needed to catch a flight which was scheduled earlier than my delivery plan and so...I just had to deliver on time!
I was about putting on my sun glasses when this breeze started. It first felt like a sweet cool breeze gently rubbing on my skin like I was in "obodooyinbo"(overseas) until the water started pouring!

Ha!!! Mogbe!!!

I was trying to save time and this is what rain would do to me.
The bike guy kept going. Infact, at some point I asked if I should give him my shades. I couldn't raise my face as the rain poured down heavily and I felt the "beating" as the okada sped off.
No argument, the rain BEAT me!

It felt like the rain had horse whip and stones all together.. I couldn't hold it and we had to stop for cover.
After some 5mins mad pour, it reduced a bit. Of course, I hopped on the bike again and as if the rain was sent to teach me some lessons (which I learnt), it started again, heavily this time...like super heavy. This time we had no where to hide.
Lesson 3: The fact that Okada is faster than a bus doesn't mean it will be as fast when the storm suddenly starts. Learn the art of PATIENCE!

I didn't know when I started crying on the bike and I saw so many BRT passing. Unfortunately, I was not at the terminal station or anywhere close to it and so...they wouldn't stop.
The annoying part was, most barely had 10 passengers! (You imagine the look on my face)

I gave the okada guy half of the money and walked in the rain to stop a cab, bus, anything but a bike! Trust me, thinking of Uber at the time wasn't the best bet!
Lesson 4: Others might seem faster than you at the moment. Doesn't mean you are slow, retarded or a failure. It simply means it's probably not your time or turn (yet)or you just need to pause (think) and wait for the "supreme" direction!
...
Finally, I got to Maryland and the land was dry!
No single drop of rain!!!!
I felt weird in my dripping clothes...when I say dripping clothes...I was literally dripping!
I sha...delivered the food which was in plastic and tightly covered and wrapped and protected than the human being that protected it (life of a foodpreneur) smh!
Lesson 5: There are no EXCUSES for failure. When you get stuck, think! Don't STOP! Keep MOVING and doing passionately and diligently what you love to do.

As I turned to leave the estate gate, that's how this rain started 'again' here on the supposedly dry land!
(I yaff suffer today!)

For My G.Ma - Felicia

I never knew I would miss her this much. People never understood why I love Christmas. I didn’t quite get it too – apart   from the bursting joy of the birth of Christ, the melodious songs and beautiful decorations; there was more to the super hyper and lovey-dovey feeling I always have this season. So, I was scrolling through my phone gallery and saw the last photo I had with my G.Ma. Oh by the way, Christmas was her birth and death day. I’m writing this because of her. Just to share a bit of her awesomeness with you. That woman was a bad-ass! Reminiscing on my childhood memories with her, I realized she was the reason I love Christmas. I usually spent my Christmas and New-Year holidays with her as a child. She would take me to her church and ask the priest to allow me join other children in the Christmas carol rehearsals and performances. She would take me to the salon and have my hair done and accessorized. I hated making my hair, it was just too stressf...

Hello there!

Is it too late to say happy new year😥?! I mean, a quarter in the year 2021 is almost over, so I will let this mushy feeling slide, and let’s say I will pretend like I have been writing and written to you all these while.    Happy? Yes.    So, what have you been up to?  As for me, after the whole #EndSARS movement, I just literally had this block. In fact, I wrote a couple of things in my notebook but just couldn’t bring myself to sharing here.  I was beyond devastated, as many people – Nigerians were.    Anyways, before and since then, I was also doing a lot of thinking, studying, and preparing for a professional examination, which I wrote and passed in December, last year – yay!! Then, I have just been having ideas on a lot of things I would have loved to share with you but you know what they say about procrastination. Yea….got the best of this relationship!   I’m sorry.  Now, I hope to be more consistent – I know I have said that a mi...
