Yiyun Li has won The Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award 2015 for her story ‘A Sheltered Woman’, which was initially published in the New Yorker. She is the first woman to win the prize since its establishment in 2010.

The Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award, with a purse of £30,000, is the “world’s richest prize for a single short story in the English language open to any novelist or short story writer from around the world who is published in the UK”  (from Booktrust.org).
30,000 pounds for a single short story is just WOW!
Yiyun Li is always on my list of writers to read.  She is a Chinese-American writer. Her two collections of short stories, A thousand years of good prayers and Gold boy, emerald girl have both won awards. She’s also published two novels, The Vagrants and Kinder than Solitude.

Hello there!

Is it too late to say happy new year😥?! I mean, a quarter in the year 2021 is almost over, so I will let this mushy feeling slide, and let’s say I will pretend like I have been writing and written to you all these while.    Happy? Yes.    So, what have you been up to?  As for me, after the whole #EndSARS movement, I just literally had this block. In fact, I wrote a couple of things in my notebook but just couldn’t bring myself to sharing here.  I was beyond devastated, as many people – Nigerians were.    Anyways, before and since then, I was also doing a lot of thinking, studying, and preparing for a professional examination, which I wrote and passed in December, last year – yay!! HEAT WAVE IN INDIA

A deadly heatwave in India is showing no sign of easing. 800 hundred people have been killed and that figure is rising. With temperatures reaching 48 C (118F), authorities are urging people to stay indoors and drink plenty of water. Most of the deaths are in the southern states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
