I was gazing at the group of young male and female dancers at the trunk of a slowly moving van that had banners, stickers which had images of old men and women on them; smiling or pretending to smile for the camera, through the window of the classroom I had sat in to study before the blast of siren and noise from speakers and whistles blared and got me standing.
Then, my phone beeped. It was a broadcast message on my black berry messenger. I took my eyes off the scene and read through what I refer to as a 'peace call' from a patriotic citizen and my good friend ofcourse!
I asked immediately if I could share it and he was more than excited to spread this call for peace to all Nigerians.
Voici!
'It's just a few hours to the commencement of 2015 general elections and from all political calculations the South West votes will be a major decider for the eventual winner. With so much focus on this region there is likely hood of violence with the desperation of politicians to hold on to and grab power. My message is for peace, elections will come and go and we will eventually move on but violence in whatever form doesn't spare anybody be you rich, poor, old or young. The ambition of any politician is not worth my blood or yours, I am therefore pleading for you to tell someone to tell someone to avoid and eschew violence in any form, it has not proven to be a good solver of problems. Spread the word of peace as you never know how far your little admonition or message can convince another man. Think of where you are coming from, think of how hard you strived to get and build whatever you have, think of your family, children and loved ones. Remember your action or in-action will surely have consequences tomorrow. Wishing Lagos,South West and the Whole Nigeria a Peaceful 2015 general elections. Please re-broadcast and spread the word of peace.'. ~ J
